The Most Disempowering Questions We Ask

Why am I creating this in my life?
Why did he say that to me last week?
Why do I keep forgetting to take time for that?
Why am I so screwed up?

These are not empowering questions. The questions that start with the word "Why" usually lead to even more confusion and unrest than before you asked the question. They are very "mental" questions that keep you in your head, in the past, and out of the present moment. They are frustrating questions because most of the time you will never be able to figure out the truthful answer. They are dangerous questions because they give you a reason to beat yourself up.

This week I invite you to join me on "The WHY Fast." I invite you to stop asking all questions that start with the word "Why," just for a week, and see how you feel. One of my clients did it for a week and afterwards looked 10 years younger and 10 pounds lighter.

I'm not saying that you should never ask a Why question. Genuine curiosity is a powerful state. If you ask a Why question and it lifts your spirits, you know it's an ok question. But if you ask a Why question and it depresses your spirits, don't sit around trying to figure out the answer. Simply pause, feel your compassionate heart, and say "it's not important to know the answer, I am perfectly ok in this moment."

  1. Thank you for this post Rachael! I agree with you that these Why questions can be most depressing!
